Guidebook

Welcome family, friends & loved ones! ¶

We are so excited you’re here to celebrate with us! We want to share some of the places we love in the area, whether you are local to Fargo-Moorhead or just visiting. Fargo has a special place in our hearts because it’s where we met and fell in love. We hope you enjoy exploring it as much as we have.

Here are some of things we love to do that you can love doing too! Read on for great places to visit and things to do while you’re in town.

Who doesn’t love eating & drinking? Here are some of our favs.

There are other great JLs locations, but this one is "ours". We’re regulars! From the time we were still rockin' the long distance relationship, Hubie would drop by before the kitchen closed, order food, pick Tracey up at the airport and the food would be waiting at the bar when we walked in! Ta Da! The staff here is remarkable. Bailey, the beertender for this weekend’s event, bartends at this location and took the night off work to be with us. Great beers and burgers with excellent service and a friendly atmosphere! Stop by if you have time. https://jlbeers.com/

A former auto shop may seem like an unlikely place for your next drink, but it holds a special place in our hearts. Owned by band members of Spoon, one of Hubie’s favorite bands. The band played at the Fargo theatre, and the bassist, who has connections in the area, opened this cool bar. After our wedding, Harold’s hosted our Pi Day Huebner celebration. Drop in and have a drink! https://fargounderground.com/harolds-on-main/

This is our favorite place to hang out after working a late at the Fargo Theatre. For years running, it was infamous for its Midnight Brunch. It’s touted as one of North Dakota's most celebrated restaurants, crafting clever cuisine and brilliant seasonal drinks. https://www.dinemezzaluna.com/

We’ve ranked this as the best brewing company in town and it’s got a really nice patio. Also home to Sol Ave. kitchen, creating good vibes and serving inspired street food with a Midwest twist. https://www.junkyardbeer.com/menu https://www.fargomoorhead.org/what-to-do/junkyard-brewing-company/ https://solavekitchen.com/

Located in one of Fargo's oldest buildings - a restored railroad facility built in 1883 - is this gem brewery and tap room. A little tidbit: Back in the day, Hubie loved to play pinball and there was a little place downtown where you could get a pinball membership. You got a key fob that let you into the game room, like a 24 hour gym. It was a great place to come in from the cold, sober up, and enjoy your love of pinball. But like so many good things back in the day, it wasn’t meant to last. The business dissolved and the machines were dispersed across town, on to other places. One of their new homes? Drekker Brewing Company! https://drekkerbrewing.com/

Because theatre always has a place in our hearts.

The Fargo Theatre is a restored 1926 vaudeville theatre in downtown Fargo. It now shows a variety of mainstream, independent and foreign films as well as hosting a variety of events (several of which we’ve spent countless hours taking down, putting up or both). Some of our favorite people work here! Drop by for a movie and enjoy the art deco décor. https://fargotheatre.org/

We love Theatre B! Their mission is to invigorate civic conversation through intimate and transformative story-telling. Hubie’s found a creative home here, letting his design work shine. https://www.theatreb.org/

We love to bike (or walk) the trails around the Red River. It’s a beautiful place to explore. https://www.fargomoorhead.org/outdoor-activities/article/bicycle-friendly-fargo-moorhead/

One of Minnesota’s most serene and beautiful state parks located in Battle Lake MN, about an hour south of Camp Cormorant. Tracey and Hubie love biking and walking Glendalough Trail, a 12-mile paved trail around Battle lake. And it’s a loop! Wildlife abounds year-round, and can be seen from several observation decks along the trails. There are tons of spots to picnic and swim along two sandy lakes with bike and boat rentals available.

If architecture is your thing, take a walk down 8^th^ street south and check out the historic homes in the area.

Tracey has long been a fan of this variety store hosting an eclectic offering of books, cards, stationary and other treasures. Back in the day, it had an old fashioned soda fountain, and a coffee bar where many weekend summer mornings were spent. https://www.zandbroz.com/index.html

Another Tracey favorite, this modern handmade gift shop features crafts and cards from over 200 local and regional makers. They also organize creative events like their epic adult sleepaway summer camp, which we attended last year. It was hosted at Camp Cormorant and how we came to know this venue. https://www.ungluedmarket.com/

Big Cormorant Lake is located in northwestern Minnesota, about an hour's drive east of the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area. We first visited the YMCA camp at Lake Cormorant when we ventured out for Unglued’s crafty camp, and thought it’d be the perfect place to hold our big shin-dig, but to be honest we fell in love with the area years ago.

The lake has been home to the Huebner family since 1966. The cabin was built by Hubie’s grandparents, Ray and Bev Hubbard. It was here that Hubie’s Mom (Julie Huebner) and Hubie’s Uncle (Dave Hubbard) learned to drive boats, water ski, and love nature every weekend from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Then Hubie and his 5 cousins had the privilege and joy of being at “the lakes” too. Now Hubie is looking out for the place and we enjoy it as much as we can!

We are so excited to share this beautiful area with you!
